The Break-Up Notebook, A Breakthrough Musical Selected for 19th Annual National Alliance for Musical Theatre Festival of New Musicals

LOS ANGELES, Calif./EWORLDWIRE/Sep. 20, 2007 --- Chosen as one of only eight musicals, selected nationwide to participate in NAMT Festival, the runaway hit musical, THE BREAK-UP NOTEBOOK: The Lesbian Musical, is also the only selection in this year's NAMT festival created by an all-woman writing team, with a book by Emmy winner Patricia Cotter (based on her critically acclaimed hit play of the same name) with musical score by award-winning composer Lori Scarlett.

Held every fall over two days in New York City, the NAMT Festival showcases a select group of new musicals before an invited audience of NAMT members and industry professionals with experience and resources to move a work forward. Each musical is presented as 45-minute staged readings at the Festival, to be held this year at New World Stages on October 7 and 8.

For this important occasion, producer Rose Marcario and award-winning musical director Victoria Bussert have assembled a cast of Broadway veterans, starring Beth Malone, who played June Carter Cash in Broadway's Ring of Fire. Joining Malone will be Donna English (Ruthless), Ann Harada (Avenue Q), Kelly Sullivan (Contact), Obie Award-winner Hunter Bell, Jodi Dominick, Jacqueline Maloney, and Christine Lakin.

Past NAMT Festival productions include The Drowsy Chaperone, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Children of Eden, The Bubbly Black Girl Sheds Her Chameleon Skin, Honk!, Songs for a New World, and Summer of '42.

The Break Up Notebook: The Lesbian Musical scored a major upset in last year's award season when it was honored with Los Angeles's highest theatre honor - the 2006 Ovation Award for World Premiere Musical. Along with the Ovation Award, THE BREAK-UP NOTEBOOK: The Lesbian Musical received the L.A. Drama Critics Award for best Musical Score, and six Garland Awards from Backstage West. Momentum from the Los Angeles production led to another sold-out run produced by Rose Marcario and San Diego's Diversionary Theater, directed by Peter Schneider and starring Beth Malone which also received critical raves.

Producer Rose Marcario stated, "We have worked very hard to improve the show, shaping it with wonderful directors like Peter Schneider and Victoria Bussert."

"The first time I heard the score to the show, I knew it was something truly fresh and original. Lori and Patricia have crafted a show with great wit, humor and heart," remarked veteran musical theatre director Victoria Bussert, who will direct the NAMT staged-reading.
